GTMO swimmers compete in one-mile swim
Naval Station Guantanamo Bay’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation hosted a one-mile swim off at the Marine Hill Pool on Saturday.
In order to complete one mile, swimmers had to complete 17.5 laps of the 50-yard-long pool, equaling 100 yards a lap.

Let the Good Times Roll
The spot to be this past Saturday night was the Windjammer Ballroom for the Dueling Pianos showcase featuring two piano players, Leon Sarao and Elwood Stone. There was a great atmosphere as many people came out dressed in green and with plenty if St. Patrick’s Day spirit. The ballroom was full of decorations and dun items for the audience to enjoy, including top hats and horns. The Coast Guardsman looked down the Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight of his Remington M870 pump-action shotgun. The firing coach instructed him, “Two rounds, 10 seconds, plenty of time.” After firing buck shots, he switched to firing slug rounds. Triathalon
Troopers and civilians throughout Naval Station Guantanamo Bay competed in a triathlon sponsored by GTMO’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation staff on Saturday. The event included a 500-yard swim, followed by an 11-mile bike ride, finished with a 5k run. The competition did not have to be an individual one, as there was a separate bracket for teams of three to compete and share each leg of the event. READ MORE![]()
Trooper Focus
In the military, everyone has the opportunity to be a leader, whether they realize it or not. During World War II, thousands of Americans were forced to march through the Philippine jungle after surrendering to the Japanese. Hundreds died because of the harsh conditions, and hundreds of people now complete the Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico every year to honor their sacrifice. With a minute and seven seconds left in the game, the Borinqueneers, who were up by only four points, wanted desperately to seal the game. They threw the ball down court for an easy layup, followed by two free-throws due to a foul.
