Education

U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay has several educational outlets to help Joint Task Force service members achieve their educational goals.

Armed Forces Tuition Assistance (TA) is a benefit paid to eligible members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Congress has given each service the ability to pay up to 100% for the tuition expenses of its members. Each service has its own criteria for eligibility, obligated service, application process' and restrictions. This money is usually paid directly to the institution by the individual services. Additionally active duty members may elect to use the MGIB "top-up" in addition to their service provided TA to cover high cost courses. TA is not a loan; it should be viewed as money you have earned just like your base pay.

Navy College Program

The Navy College Program, NCP, provides opportunities to service members to earn college degrees by providing academic credit for service-related training, work experience, and off-duty education. The NCP mission is to enable service members to obtain a college degree while on active duty. In support of the four R's- Recruiting, Readiness, Retention, and Respect, the NCP signals Navy's commitment to education by improving enlistment appeal, demonstrating that service and achieving a college degree are compatible, helping service members to apply themselves to new situations and challenges and better preparing them for advancement, building up self-image, and producing higher quality service members. The Navy College Program integrates all components of Voluntary Education. While the NCP is primarily geared toward enlisted, some NCP components are also available to officers.

Navy/Marine Corps/U.S. Coast Guard Tuition Assistance Form

The Air Force has introduced a new online process for airmen to request Tuition Assistance.

The advantages of this new system are that there are no lines, the forms are simple and intuitive, and you can complete the entire process without having to drive to your local education center. In addition, it increases efficiency by allowing you to track and manage your TA requests and account directly through your AFVEC logon.

Before you can access the online TA request process, you must create a user name and password on the AFVEC. This can be done through the Air Force Portal.
