Community

Approximately 7,000 active duty service members, retirees, family members, DoD civilians and contractors make up the community of U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The oldest U.S. naval station on foreign soil, the base is home to several tenant commands – the largest of which is Joint Task Force Guantanamo.

The JTF is made up of unaccompanied active duty Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine and Coast Guard personnel, as well as Army and Air National Guardsman, reservists from all branches of service, DoD contractors, and other federal employees. Though the JTF headquarters is located in Camp America, many JTF personnel live near the naval station’s facilities and have easy access to the Naval Exchange, base gyms and liberty centers.

U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay has the highest-funded MWR program in Navy Region South East and all of its activities are open to JTF Troopers. Liberty programs provide entertainment and free internet access to Troopers to help maintain contact with their loved ones while deployed here.

The base covers 45 square miles of sea-side real estate, and has a great selection of outdoor activities – just out the back door. Sun, sand and a close knit community make the naval station one of the finest ‘gated communities’ in the Caribbean.
